JD(U) MLA Gopal Mandal allegedly slapped a man demanding compensation for a family member's death in a Bhagalpur road accident. The incident occurred during a protest by relatives and local vendors seeking compensation for the deceased banana vendor.
Mandal, the MLA for Gopalpur assembly constituency, attempted to clear the road blockade and console the grieving family. Despite offering immediate compensation and promising additional aid, Mandal's efforts were met with resistance from the protesters.
Claiming his authority as a local MLA, Mandal asserted that his influence surpassed that of the District Magistrate (DM), but the protesters remained unyielding. When questioned about the incident, Mandal clarified that he had slapped someone from his own camp, not a relative of the deceased.

Justifying his actions, he explained that the individual was preventing him from consoling the victim's family, dragging his shirt in the process. Mandal, expressing his intention to contest the Lok Sabha election, emphasized that he was not hostile towards the public.
He concluded by detailing the immediate compensation of Rs 5 lakh and plans to urge the Road Transport Department to provide additional compensation ranging from Rs 15 to 20 lakh, considering the victim's six daughters.
