In a significant development, Al-Madinah Heritage Co., established by the Public Investment Fund, has entered into an agreement with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones to acquire land in Madinah for the establishment of a dedicated date factory. The announcement was made during the Industry and Local Content Medinah Forum, attended by Prince Saud bin Khalid bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, the deputy governor of the Madinah region, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Bandar Al-Qahtani, the CEO of Al-Madinah Heritage Co., revealed that the agreement marks the initiation of the company's comprehensive plan for an integrated date factory in Madinah. He stated that the actual construction would commence three months after finalizing plans and specifications, adhering to the latest global technologies.
Last September, the Public Investment Fund launched the Al-Madinah Heritage Company with the primary objective of enhancing the production and quality of dates, particularly focusing on the Ajwa variety. The company also aims to explore new and diverse markets for dates and related products, both domestically and internationally.
As per the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom boasts a date production exceeding 3.1 tons, supported by approximately 34 million fruiting palm trees scattered across the country. Various regions host over 10 annual date festivals from July to September, providing farmers with a platform to showcase and sell their harvests.
Ajwa dates hold a special significance globally, being one of the most important varieties. Notably, they are the only type mentioned in the biography of Prophet Muhammad. Recognizable by their dark, almost black, color, Ajwa dates are esteemed for their high nutritional value, attributed to their cultivation in the mineral-rich volcanic area of Harrat Al-Madinah.
