Telangana government unveiled its holiday schedule for the upcoming year, featuring 13 extended weekends in 2024. General holidays include seven Mondays and six Fridays, with a unique provision for a working day on February 10, compensating for the New Year's Day holiday on January 1. The government stipulated that all its offices will be closed on Sundays and second Saturdays, except for the aforementioned exception.
In an official notification, the Telangana government specified the days in Annexure I as general holidays for all state government offices. Additionally, optional holidays for state government offices, detailed in Annexure II, encompass occasions and festivals falling on Sundays. State government employees are granted the option to take five additional holidays for festivals, subject to prior leave application and approval from senior officers.
It's important to note that these holiday provisions do not extend to industrial establishments and public undertakings under the state government's control, including the Public Works Department and educational institutions. Notifications concerning holidays observed by these entities will be issued by the respective administrative departments.
The holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, and Muharram will be adjusted based on moon sightings, and any changes will be promptly updated.
