Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief Y. S. Sharmila, in her recent address, accused the Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government of being under the influence of the BJP. Just a day into her role as the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president, Sharmila criticized the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government led by her brother, stating that its actions do not align with the principles of their father, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR).
Sharmila emphasized that YSR had always been strongly opposed to the BJP, making it unfortunate that political parties in Andhra Pradesh now seem to be controlled by the BJP. She expressed concern over a government being led by a party without a single MLA.
Addressing a gathering in Ichapuram, Srikakulam district, where YSR had concluded his historic padyatra 'Praja Prasthanam' in 2003, Sharmila pledged to continue her father's struggle for the welfare of the people. She recalled YSR's padyatra, which gave rise to initiatives like Arogyasri and free electricity, as a response to the challenges faced by the people.

Sharmila highlighted the close relationship between YSR and the Congress, refuting claims that the party had insulted YSR. She asserted that the party high command still holds respect for him, citing personal assurance from Sonia Gandhi.
Taking a swipe at the Jagan government, Sharmila criticized its failure to secure special category status for the state and questioned the unfulfilled promise related to MP seats. She affirmed that Congress is committed to the state's well-being, with Rahul Gandhi pledging to grant special category status if the party comes to power.
During her visit, Sharmila traveled in an APSRTC bus from Palasa to Ichapuram, engaging with women passengers to understand their concerns. Responding to a challenge by YSRCP leader Y. V. Subba Reddy regarding development under YSRCP rule, Sharmila expressed readiness to witness the progress at a specified date and time.
As the APCC chief, Sharmila also addressed the issue of addressing the Chief Minister, offering to call Jagan Mohan Reddy 'Jagan Anna garu,' responding to Subba Reddy's discomfort with her addressing the Chief Minister as Jagan Reddy.
