Mehdipatnam Skywalk: Construction Set to Wrap Up After Obstacle Clearance

The construction of a much-needed skywalk in Mehdipatnam, the state capital of Hyderabad Metropolis, is set to move forward following the approval from the central government for the allocation of required land. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) announced that the long-awaited skyway project will soon become a reality.

The persistent issue of escalating traffic congestion in the area has prompted ongoing discussions and proposals for the construction of a skywalk to ensure the safety of road users. However, complications arose when the central defense department refused to relinquish their lands situated in the Rithu Bazar area. Previous attempts by the former government to transfer 0.51 acres of land under the Defense Department's jurisdiction proved futile.

The lack of a response from the central government led to a halt in the skywalk project, exacerbating the daily traffic woes in the bustling Rithu Bazar area of Mehdipatnam. Swiftly after assuming office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy prioritized tackling the city's traffic congestion issues. During his visit to Delhi on January 5, he held a special meeting with the Defense Minister to address the urgency of transferring the Defense Department's land. Fortunately, the minister responded positively to the request.

In a strategic move to align with the suggestions from the Central Government, the Chief Minister made necessary adjustments to the skyway's design, ensuring minimal disruption to the defense zone.
