Indin fast bowler (Cricketer) Mohammad Shami and Telangana boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin have been honored with the Arjuna Award in New Delhi. Mohammad Shami, despite being sidelined from the Indian team due to an injury, has been conferred with the second-largest sports award in the country. The prestigious award was presented to Sami by President Droupadi Murmu.
Shami becomes the 46th male cricketer to receive this honor, and when including the 12 female cricketers honored, he is the 58th cricketer from the country to achieve this accolade. Shami had been nominated for the Arjuna Award and expressed great enthusiasm about this special moment, considering it a realization of his dream.

He mentioned that life passes by, but the Arjuna Award is not something everyone attains. Shami expressed his gratitude for the fortunate opportunity to receive this recognition. The Arjuna Award is the country's second-largest sports award, given to athletes based on their outstanding performance in recent years.
Shami's exceptional performance in the Wande World Cup 2023 was noteworthy, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker. Among the 26 athletes awarded the Arjuna Award, Shami is the sole cricketer.
