Dubai to Welcome NASA-Inspired Air Taxis

Dubai is set to introduce air taxis inspired by NASA's 'Ingenuity' helicopter, currently operating on Mars. Austrian company FlyNow Aviation has partnered with UAE authorities and aims to be airborne in 28 months. The air taxis, labeled as having "the most efficient configuration and infrastructure footprint," will offer passenger and cargo transportation in response to increasing traffic in megacities globally.

Yvonne Winter, Co-founder and CEO of FlyNow Aviation, stated that they have initiated the production of single and twin-seaters, with plans for the cargo version to be in startup series production within 28 months. The cargo version, with a 130 km/h cruise speed and a noise level comparable to a dishwasher, can carry up to 200 kg.

The eVTOL's rotor system, inspired by NASA's 'Ingenuity,' allows efficient flight in atmospheres with lower density, suitable for high-altitude environments. The air taxis will operate on predefined routes, providing an autopilot option for convenience and safety.

FlyNow Aviation aims to set new benchmarks in affordability, operability, certification readiness, and efficiency. The company has patented technology, and initial customers have already signed up for the innovative air taxi service.

The introduction of these air taxis aligns with Dubai's commitment to embracing cutting-edge transportation solutions and enhancing mobility in the city. The autonomous air taxis are expected to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable urban transportation system in the coming years.
